Stalking at Ballogie Estate

At Ballogie Estate our mix of open hillside terrain for red deer stalking, along with spruce and pine woodland for roe deer offer some of the most varied and challenging stalking in Scotland.

Red Deer Stalking

In rural Scotland, Red Deer stalking provides valuable economic benefits to isolated communities, as well as helping to control the red deer population and conserve forestry.

As a traditional field sport, a stalk can often take up to a whole day as you hike across the open hillside terrain to locate the deer. All the while you will be guided by Wildlife Ranger, Peter Littlejohn, and his assistant, Calum Robertson. Both men have a wealth of experience and local knowledge and will ensure your day will be one to remember.

Roe Deer Stalking

Roe deer stalking is a very different experience to red deer stalking as it generally takes place either at dawn or dusk when the deer are entering or leaving their wooded habitat. Although a shot can be taken from an elevated point, stalking on foot is the classic approach as it uses a combination of stealth, keen eyesight and good hearing.

There is nothing like warm Scottish hospitality and a decent place to lay your head at the end of a rewarding day’s exertion. When it comes to accommodation, you can choose the exclusive use of Ballogie House which can sleep up to 13 guests; our newly refurbished, seven bedroom Potarch Lodge – recently upgraded to the highest standard and suitable for up to 14 guests. Both properties are perfect for larger parties who like to socialise after a rewarding day’s stalking. If you are planning to holiday with a smaller group, you can enjoy the peace and tranquillity of one of our beautiful holiday cottages – Greenlands, a lovely, stone-built, traditional farm steading conversion, which can accommodate between 4-6 people, and Ford Cottage, which can cater for up to 7 guests. It has a wonderful new extension which includes an open plan kitchen, wood burning stove, and floor to ceiling picture windows with stunning views over the river. All of our accommodation is finished to a very high standard and are ideal for a friends and family stalking break or group holiday. Our properties also provide the perfect base for exploring the many visitor attractions within the area including National Trust for Scotland castles, Craigievar - a fine example of Scottish Baronial architecture; Crathes - an enchanting 16th century tower house, and Drum – one of Royal Deeside’s top historic attractions.
