Home Farm Ballogie

The sheltered fields and sandy soils of Ballogie are ideally suited to livestock production and our in-hand farm is a registered multiplier farm with the Stabiliser Cattle Company.

The Cattle Enterprise

Our 200 Stabiliser cows are out wintered on strip grazed kale and silage before calving in April and May. The cows and calves enjoy the lush green sheltered fields through the summer and autumn before the calves are weaned in November. The male calves are kept entire and finished at around 14 months.

The best bulls are retained for our own use, or for sale as premium breeding stock at 2 years old. We are proud to rear our own replacements and our naturally reared heifers are much sought after as replacements for other suckler herds.

The Arable Enterprise

To support the livestock enterprises, 100acs of spring barley is grown every year, with all grain and straw produced nourishing the livestock. The arable break is also used to correct any nutrient deficits, control weeds and aid the re-establishment of good grass swards.

The Sheep Enterprise

Our 500 head of Logie flock, lambs in April. Although we do buy in Tupps, we are otherwise a closed flock.

Additionally, on the heather clad hills of the Forest of Birse, we run a flock of 250 Blackface that also lamb in April. These Lambs are sold between August and February and are fed on grass , red clover and forage rape.

The Potarch Café

We create food that celebrates Ballogie Estate and local Scottish producers, while playing with dishes and flavours that the team have picked up from travelling around the world.
