The Ball will be held on Saturday, 25 August 2012 at the Raemoir House Hotel. The Ball, in its fifteenth year, has to date, raised over £258,000 for local charities.

This year’s beneficiary will be GASTROCAN. It is the only charity raising money specifically for research into stomach and oesophageal cancer. This devastating form of cancer is rising and Scotland has one of the highest incidences of the disease in Europe. Unfortunately stomach and oesophageal cancers are amongst the most aggressive forms of cancer and at present only 1 in 10 patients are cured – this contrasts with much better results for other forms of cancer and accordinly research to improve the treatments of stomach and oesophageal cancer is seen as a medical priority. All funds donatted to GASTROCAN are used to support local research efforts in NHS Grampian and the University of Aberdeen into this form of cancer, allowing local patients to benefit from the latest new treatments and enable the University of Aberdeen to lead national and international research projects. By supporting research GASTROCAN aims to improve the treatment of the cancer and at the same time raise awareness of the disease to enable earlier diagnosis.
