The Potarch Hotel
A hostelry has stood on the site at Potarch since 1740 and with the construction of the bridge in 1812 became a popular stopping point for travellers. The hotel has been sympathetically extended over the centuries but still retains much of its traditional Scottish character.
The famous ‘Dinnie Stones’ stand by the hotel’s front door. 775lbs of irregular stone used as counter weights for bridge repairs in the 1830′s. Donald Dinnie the local stonemasons son, cemented his place in history by carrying both stones the width of the bridge and back in 1860. He went on to international fame as a supreme strongman and his legend lives on as one of Scotland’s greatest sportsmen
